The Family of John Jacob Hacker

Martha was the first child born to Johann Hacker and his second wife, Hulda Schemke. She was born 8 May 1876 in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan. I do not know what her middle initials stand for yet.  

Her 1880 US Federal census page shows her living with her parents in Washington Twp., Lucas Co., Ohio. Martha was 4 years old.

In 1900, Martha was still living with her parents in Washington Twp. She was now 24 years old and still single. Her occupation was listed as "cloak maker".

On 27 Nov 1901, Martha Hacker married Andrew James LaVerne, parents unknown. Marriage location unknown, possibly Toledo, Ohio. Andrew was born 7 Apr 1875 in France. They had four (4) children together.

Martha states on her 1910 census page that she was the mother of 3 children but only 2 were living.

2. Lloyd B. LaVerne (1904-1992)

3. Orville LaVerne (1908-1981)

4. Melvin LaVerne (aft 19 Jan 1920-unk)

On her 1910 US Federal census page, Martha, her husband Andrew, and sons Lloyd (6) & Orville (1) still reside in Washington Twp. They live next door to Martha's parents (John & Hulda Hacker). Andrew's occupation was a "General Architect". He states he immigrated to the US in 1891 and that he is naturalized.

On her 1920 US Federal census page, Martha and her family have moved to Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan. Andrew's occupation is a "Pattern clerk for an auto company". He states that he immigrated to the US in 1917 and that he is naturalized. Quite a contrast in this immigration date and the one listed in 1910. Their son Lloyd is now 15 and son Orville is 11. Martha's widowed "half-brother-in-law", Charles F. Herr lives with them.

Andrew James LaVerne died before the 1930 census was taken. On Martha's 1930 US Federal census page, she is age 52 and a widow, living in Highland Park, Wayne Co., Michigan. Her household includes her 3 sons and also 3 lodgers. Her son Lloyd is now 26, son Orville is 21 and son Melvin is age 10.

Martha's death date and burial place are unknown at this time but I will update this information when I get it.
